Overview
Per Albin Hansson was a Swedish statesman who served twice as Prime Minister of Sweden from 1932 until his death in 1946. He was leader of the Swedish Social Democratic Party (SAP) from 1925 and a member of the Riksdag’s lower house for Stockholm from 1918 to 1946. He introduced the concept of Folkhemmet in 1928, a political vision that defined the Swedish welfare state. Known affectionately as a "father of the nation" (landsfader), Hansson led the country through the Great Depression of the 1930s and maintained its neutrality in the Second World War.
